Delicious food served with a smile

Shoal serves fantastic fish and chips, and a great choice of tasty alternatives for all the family. We are excited to bring Traditional Fish and Chips to Winchester – freshly-cooked, responsibly-sourced and finger-licking delicious.

Meet our Chef Patron

Lenny buzzes with passion for Great British fish and chips: “I grew up dreaming of opening a traditional fish and chip shop, childhood visits were such a treat – I think we all have memories of those special times with our families.”

Great fish and chip shops have a special place in our hearts, serving simple and affordable food with a sprinkling of happiness. “Shoal is the fish and chip shop of my dreams,” says Lenny. “Lively, fun and friendly, and serving fantastic food.”

Lenny has worked hard to bring this spirit to Shoal, learning from the owner of his absolute favourite fish and chip shop, Chez Fred in Westbourne, Dorset. “Fred has generously mentored and trained me in the art of fantastic fish and chips. He knows exactly how to serve customers brilliant food, laced with that warm feeling of happy satisfaction – thanks to him I can now bring that to Winchester.”

Excellent cooking

Lenny is an accomplished and experienced chef, with years of training including some of the best London Michelin restaurants (Le Gavroche, Claridge’s, Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park) and regular appearances on James Martin’s Saturday Morning Show. You know that any kitchen with him at the helm will select the best ingredients and tune recipes so that every morsel delivers the perfect hit of pleasurable flavour.

Relaxing surroundings

Great food tastes even better when you can share it with friends and family, so Lenny is keen to serve his food in warm and welcoming surroundings. He is well-known in Winchester, having saved and revived two closed pubs (The Bugle Inn, Twyford and The Fox, Crawley), both now renowned for their friendly atmosphere, high quality freshly-cooked food and great local beers.

Shoal is the perfect extension of this ethos into central Winchester, welcoming you to delicious traditional British fish and chips without fuss.

“Whether you order a takeaway or eat in at Shoal we want you to enjoy our friendly welcome and great service” confirms Lenny. “We hope you will finish your meal with a huge smile on your face and eager to come back!”
