  • Do I need to book?

    No, there is no need to book - just come along and see us on the day and we will look after you! 

    We operate on a first-come-first-served basis, and have a waiting area should a table not be immediately available, however, our service style is quick, so you should never have to wait too long.


    (For parties of more than 8 people we are happy to reserve you a spot to make sure your celebration or get together goes off with a bang.

  • Are you family friendly?

    We are extremely family friendly both day and night and have highchairs available as well as colouring in and an extensive kids menu at great value prices.

  • Do you offer Gluten Free fish and chip?

    Yes! We always offer gluten free fish and chips as well as a variety of other gluten free options (including rotisserie chicken, scampi, fish cakes and more) to suit all of our guests tastes. All of our freshly made homemade gelato is also gluten free- every day!

  • Do you have wheelchair access?

    We have extremely easy access for wheelchairs or mobility scooters and an easy access toilet to make sure you or your guests are catered for with no fuss.

  • Can you deal with other dietary requirements and allergies?

    We can cater for a wide variety of dietary requirements and allergies. For example our vegan 'fish and chips' is a staple on our menu and one of our best sellers. Other dietary requirement and allergies can be easily dealt with on request- please just let your waiter know at the time of ordering and we can ensure you are safely catered for.

  • Is it just fish and chips?

    We offer a selection of different types of fish as well as plenty of alternatives including homemade pies, rotisserie chicken, battered sausage etc as well as JUST fish and chips!

  • Do you have any outdoor seating?

    We have outdoor seating available which we set up each day after reviewing the great British weather. Should you wish to sit outside regardless of the weather we will happily set up a table for you over looking Abbey Gardens.


  • Do staff keep all tips?

    Yes.  The tips are distributed equally between all staff working on a shift.  The manager receives the same as the Pot Washer.


  • Can I order in advance?

    You can order takeaway via our website at www.shoal.uk.net or you can pop in and order over our takeaway counter (the wait time is generally 10-15 minutes depending on your order and how busy we are).

  • Can I visit Shoal anywhere else?

    Currently Shoal Winchester is our only Fish and Chip shop but you can visit our sister pub The Fox, Crawley (www.the-fox.pub) or The Bugle Inn, Twyford (thebugleinntwyford.co.uk) both on the outskirts of Winchester if you would like to see more of what we do. Both pubs offer fantastic locally sourced menus and charming bed and breakfast rooms should you wish to extend your stay with us.

  • How long has Shoal been open?

    We officially opened our doors in August 2021 after 2 years of careful planning, research, recruitment and training.

  • What do I do if I would like to apply for a position?

    We are always looking for valued, enthusiastic and hardworking members to join our team so please email you CV and a cover letter stating the position you would be interested in to info@shoal.uk.net

  • What to do if your question isn't answered here?

    Please feel free to call us for a chat anytime Tuesday-Saturday 1130am-2pm or 430pm-830pm and one of our helpful team will do their best to answer any questions you may have. Even better come along and see us in person at Shoal, Guildhall, The Broadway, Winchester and you can grab some lunch or dinner at the same time.

  • How do I arrange a click and collect order?

    Click on the following link to order your click and collect takeaway…..choose your required day and time….(if no slots are available, sorry it means all our allocated slots are full) …. Choose your food and any sides or drinks….proceed to checkout and pay online ……..Come to our Takeaway, join our social distancing queue and one of our team will be there to greet you – Please arrive only at your selected time………Collect your order from the [table] in the doorway – Enjoy!

  • Can I choose date / time to collect my order?

    We are currently operating Tuesday – Saturday 4pm to 8.30pm and Friday lunchtime 12pm to 2pm. You can choose a date and time best suited to you when placing your order.

  • Can I order over the phone?

    Unfortunately we are currently unable to take phone orders.

  • It’s not letting me place my order online?

    If you are unable to place your order online, unfortunately this means that all of our allocated slots are now full, and we are unable to take further orders. We have a limited number of slots available per day to ensure efficiency of production. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

  • What if I have made a mistake? Can I change my order?

    Unfortunately, once the order has been processed and payment has been taken, we are unable to make any amendments. Please take your time when ordering to ensure everything is correct.

  • How do I arrange a delivery?

    We are delighted to be offering home delivery in partnership with Deliveroo, allowing you to enjoy our delicious fish and chips and lots more without even having to leave the comfort of your own home. 

    Just simply visit our home delivery tab to place your order, relax and leave the rest to us.
